Summer of 2018 ends

Another hot summer is over. It seems that thanks to the active LED light cooling the temperature in the aquarium got reduced. The water's temperature has only reached to 28 °C. At the end of August I went to Spain for two weeks, but the aquarium was in order after I returned. The plants grew well.

At the beginning of summer the Ram cichlids (Mikrogeophagus ramirezi) died. Only one of them remained. And three Siamese algae eaters (Crossocheilus siamensis) too. The largest angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare) got some mouth mold. I applied eSha 2000 several times but it didn’t help. We’ll see, if it’ll desapear with time.

Due to warmer water I started exchanging the water every week. 5 liters of water evaporates a week; so I drain 15 liters and fill 20 liters. I vacuum the gravel when I exchange the water.

I changed the fertilizer dosage in this manner:

  • 15 ml of Profito twice a week
  • 20 ml of Fosfo twice a week
  • 10 ml of Kalium-Potassium twice a week
  • 3 tablets of Tetra Crypto-Dunge once in four weeks

Nevertheless, in the beginning of September I measured iron in the water and the its level was higher than usually. For some time I haven’t applied the fertilizer.

The plants Lilaeopsis brasiliensis a Juncus repens I bought some time ago, don’t grow well. They get a lot of algae. I’m afraid this type is not good for my aquarium. I reduced the amount of the Cryptocoryne plants a bit. I moved theirs young plants to another place. The Ludwigia repens plants grow fast but their leaves fall enough. Moreover, one of the upside-down catfish (Synodontis schoutedeni) devastated them a lot. The Echinodorus hot pepper grows well; it even started to bloom.
